Los Angeles to Las Vegas via Zzyzx

Last Friday in Hollywood ten Groupsters piled into two cars with our sights set on the sparkling lights of Las Vegas. Filled to the brim with Red Bull, beef jerky, and high expectations, we headed our for what could be a four or an eight-hour drive, depending on traffic.

This was my first trip to Vegas and was also the first time I'd ever seen a desert. I must say it was pretty shocking. The desert is stark. There is nothing there but cacti, mountains in the distance and a few random shacks and gas stations.

Me, Shawnny, Ryan, and Bianca zoomed on Route 66 in Heather's chartreuse Audi before finally stopping in Zzyzx (a road with a rest area) for some fresh, dry desert air. It was truly something out of a horror movie, but a fun horror movie. In fact we were having so much fun that I decided to climb up a mini palm tree.

We sped by the abandoned water park with huge imported palm trees, Minneola Road, the old Ghost Town, Barstow and finally the Roller Coaster hotel with a 99 cent shrimp cocktail, and promptly exited onto the Las Vegas strip in a zippy three hours and 40 minute trip.

Now what exciting sites did the Groupsters see as they drove down one of the most renowned streets in the world? Stay tuned for details...

Yours Truly, Tim
