Blood 2.0

Advances in science don't just make cool gadgets to stunt on your friends with. They make things that actually serve a purpose.

Since the mid 1900's there have been blood substitutes and attempts. The idea of making a synthetic replacement, maybe even an improved version would be miraculous.

Blood helps to transfer oxygen to your cells from your lungs to all over your body, its also the roadway for hormones, white and red blood cells, medicine, and anything else that runs through your body.

If there was an improved version that could carry everything better, human life could drastically improve. We would heal faster, more oxygen could be delivered to our cells (muscle, brain, lungs, etc.) and we would function/ heal more effectively. Maybe even perform better physically as far as athletics and other activities. (I might be thinking a little too far into the future though)

The "wonder blood" Oxycyte is a synthetic chemical made from perfluorocarbons which are small particles that carry oxygen through your blood 50 times more effectively than the hemoglobin in your red blood cells.

Its used solely for delivery of oxygen through damaged blood vessels which your red blood cells cannot get through that is because that's all it can do (. When oxygen cant get through constricted vessels, your cells die, usually brain cells (which results in brain damage).

When patients are treated with the PFC blood substitute during a stroke or something similar, it drastically cuts brain damage. This is the only function of the substance (mind you that it does this very well), and the only drug that can prevent and help fight brain damage, making it a very possible candidate for FDA approval.

Oxycyte testing has run very smoothly, the patients treated with it have reacted well. Hopefully more studying will lead to more advances and eventually FDA approval of the possible wonder drug.
