Video Game Profits Down For A Round

The next generation is now! As far as video game systems go. We've got PS3, PSP, Nintendo Wii & DS, and Xbox360.

The next gen games are looking more realistic, playing better, doing more.

Thats great isnt it? Yeah! but the guys at Screen Digest gathered info recently and it turns out that, that means more time, skill, and money needs to be put into the games development.

Video games are costing more to make while prodcution times get longer, budgets stick, and profit is about the same. The dough rolls in a little bit slower, so to speak.

What are the companies behind the systems relying on? Strategy People!

Microsoft is notorious for being exclusive (so is Sony and Nintendo in their own right). Think Halo & Gears of War though. Those are major sellers, they are my main reason for wanting an Xbox360.

Sony for the most part has its Final Fantasy games and some others that run through similar genres. They seem to have the most variable titles though. They even Share the Grand Theft Auto series a few months after the PlayStation release.

Nintendo has its Mario, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Zeld etc.

With the extra work and less profit, companies will have to roll with it. The Sales forecast said that profits wont be seen til 2008!

Patience is a virtue though, and whoever can keep it moving is said to actually do well in the near future. We'll see how it pans out.

Thanks BBC News!
